Dont Rush the Process
I get ityou want to move in and have it all done yesterday. But a new build is a blank canvas for a reason. Take your time to live in the space, see how the light hits different areas, and figure out what you really need before buying every piece at once.
Layer In Character
New builds can sometimes lack the architectural charm of older homes, so I like to layer in details that bring character: think wall treatments (like shiplap or board and batten), ceiling beams, or even just switching out builder-grade light fixtures for something with a bit more personality.
Focus on the Floors and Walls
A great way to add instant warmth and style? Rugs and paint. Even just painting an accent wall or choosing a soft, warm white can totally transform how a room feels. And dont forget those floorsrunners, layered rugs, and texture go a long way in softening all the newness.
Upgrade the Lighting
Builder-grade lighting rarely makes a statement. Swapping out light fixtures is one of my favorite ways to instantly elevate a space. From pendants over the island to sconces in the hallway, a few thoughtful upgrades can really personalize your home.
Mix High and Low
You dont need to go high-end on every piece. Splurge on a few key items (like a great sofa or custom drapes) and balance them out with budget-friendly finds from places like Target or Amazon. This gives your home a curated, collected feel.
Add Your Story
Personal touches are what turn a house into a home. Art you love, family photos, a vintage table, or books that actually get readthese are the layers that bring soul into a space and make it feel truly yours.
Embrace Custom Where It Counts
Built-ins, window treatments, closet systemsthese types of upgrades add both beauty and function. If you can, prioritize these types of projects where theyll really make your daily life easier and the space feel more custom.
