Shiplap Accent Walls: How to Add Visual Interest to Your Home

As an interior designer, my home is a canvas where I can experiment with new ideas and designs. Recently, I decided to tackle a project that has been on my mind for a while—adding and painting shiplap to add more visual interest to my space. In this blog post, I'll take you through my journey of transforming my hallway and dining room with shiplap accent walls!

Hallway Makeover: Embracing Shiplap

Let's start with the hallway. It's often an overlooked space, but I wanted to make it more inviting and aesthetically pleasing. Shiplap was the perfect choice for this area. Its clean lines and classic charm create a sense of warmth and coziness. Since we already have shiplap in other areas of our home, it ties in perfectly!

Design and Planning

I began by consulting with a shiplap installation expert. They provided valuable insights and helped me plan the project. Together, we decided on the type of shiplap and the layout that would best suit the space and match the rest of my home.

To ensure a flawless installation, I hired a team of skilled professionals. This is certainly something you could install yourself if you are handy enough! But, my almost 9 month pregnant self has no business doing any type of installation, so I chose to trust the pros!

Styling

I chose to keep this shiplap white so that it blends seamlessly with the rest of the hallway while still adding visual interest! To complete the look, I updated my console table decor to make the hallway feel more inviting and add a functional and beautiful design element.

Dining Room: Painted Shiplap

Inspired by the success of my hallway project, I decided to tackle my dining room next! This time, I opted for a different approach—painted shiplap. We already had white shiplap in this space, so I wanted to simply update it by refreshing and warming up the paint color!

Choosing the Right Color

Selecting the right paint color is crucial. I chose one of my favorite soft, calming gray paint colors – Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams. The contrasting colors added so much depth to the space!

Creating stunning accent walls with shiplap has been a rewarding experience. It's amazing how a simple addition can elevate the look and feel of a space. Whether you opt for traditional white shiplap or experiment with colors like I did, accent walls are a fantastic way to infuse personality and style into your home.

So, if you're looking to enhance your space, consider the charm of shiplap or painted shiplap as your next interior design project. The transformation is sure to leave you inspired and delighted with the results!
